Do Ectomycorrhizal Trees Select Ectomycorrhizal Fungi That Enhance Phosphorus Uptake under Nitrogen Enrichment?

چکیده
Globally, forests are impacted by atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition, affecting their structure and functioning above below ground. All trees form mutualistic root symbioses with mycorrhizal fungi. Of the two kinds of trees, ectomycorrhizal (EcM) symbiosis is much more sensitive to N enrichment than arbuscular (AM) symbiosis. Due increasing significant declines in richness abundance EcM fungal species shifts community composition functional traits have been recorded. Under usually show enhanced foliar mass fractions N, reduced phosphorus (P), and, consequently, an imbalance N:P stoichiometry, ultimately impacting tree performance. The question has raised whether, under conditions high can select fungi that both tolerant availability efficient acquisition P, which could some extent mitigate negative impact deposition on nutrient balances. Here we evaluate literature for mechanisms through certain increase P increased loading. We find very little evidence enrichment, average higher efficiency might be selected thereby prevent or delay imbalances. However, methodological issues these studies make it imperative treat this conclusion caution. Considering importance avoiding disbalances need restore suffered from long-term excess loading, further research into urgently required.

Ectomycorrhizal fungi in mineral soil
Ectomycorrhizal fungi are mutualistic symbionts of many forest trees and play a major role in nutrient uptake. They form diverse communities in boreal forest soils but functional differences within this group of fungi remain largely unknown. We study ectomycorrhzal fungi in mineral soil to determine how abiotic preferences influence their spatial distribution in stratified soil profiles. This i...
متن کاملStudy of ectomycorrhizal fungi with beech trees in highland beech forests (Farim, Mazandaran province)
In this study, the ectomycorhizal fungi from beech trees in highland beech forests of Farim (Mazandaran province) were identified based on extraction of DNA from roots and sequencing the ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA. For this purpose, in the altitude of 1500-2100 meters A.S.L, 30 plot and one plant per each plot were selected randomly and samples were taken from roots in depths of 10 cm ...
متن کاملPlasticity and constraint in growth and protein mineralization of ectomycorrhizal fungi under simulated nitrogen deposition.
Ectomycorrhizal fungi allow their host plants access to organic forms of N through enzymatic mineralization of the substrate and enhanced absorption of amino acids and mineral N. The cost to the plant is carbohydrates that support fungal growth and metabolism. Enrichment of soils with mineral N, as through atmospheric deposition, may affect the growth and function of these fungi by direct effec...
